Another one for members of our ExpatConnect Cooking Club and Foodies Group: Held every year, the Dubai Food Festival is a citywide event that celebrates Dubai’s emerging status as a great destination to taste first-class national, regional and international dishes. The festival’s highlights in March include the Sushi Making Classes (2 March), the Century Village Street Carnival (4 March), and the Cocoville Chocolate Workshop (5 March). Bon Appetit!

Dubai International Boat Show 2016

This one is for our ExpatConnect Book Club members: The Emirates Airline Festival of Literature is the Middle East’s largest celebration of the written and spoken word. It takes place every year and attracts thousands of visitors. Last years there were more than 37,000 visitors who had the opportunity to meet world famous authors and attend readings, literary debates, workshops, and more. Don’t miss it!

 

Dubai Canvas 2016

This year, the Dubai Canvas organizers invite you to a 3D art festival, where visitors can see breath-taking 3D illusions all around the JBR area. 3D artists from around the world have created these pieces of art, which will blow your mind. Hareem Al Sultan: The Exhibition

For all fans of the popular Turkish TV seriesHarem Al Sultan”, which is being aired across the UAE (dubbed in Arabic), this is a great exhibition, which takes visitors on a journey through the Turkish Ottoman era and the palace of “Harem Al Sultan”.  The multimedia exhibition features original décor, costumes and accessories used during the show.

 

“We are going on a Bear Hunt”

“We are Going on a Bear Hunt” is a fun theatre play based on Michael Rosen’s award-winning children’s book.  After successful performances in London’s West End, this acclaimed show by Kenny Wax Productions is now coming to Dubai. Zurich Corporate Touch 6’s Tournament

In its fifth edition, the Zurich Corporate Touch 6’s Tournament brings you 20 teams which compete against each other in various games while testing the players’ rugby, basketball, teamwork, agility, fitness and ball skills. Alongside the tournament there will be a dedicated area for children with a movie screening later on that day, as well as a drum workshop, and plenty of refreshments.

Street Nights

Already in its third edition, Street Nights is a popular street culture event, which will be taking place for one weekend during the Dubai Food Festival. The event offers a wide range of activities, including live street art and performances. There will be various food trucks as well, offering yummy finger food and snacks.

 

The Garden at Raffles

This “Spring Family Fest” is a fun-filled family event, which features various food stalls, art stations and entertainment activities for children – all set on a beautiful 1,500-square metre garden. The kids’ activities include bouncy castles, face painting, and balloon bending. While a DJ will be at the turntables on 4 March, the five-piece-band “Sceemin’ Egylz” will be playing songs of the 70s, 80s, and 90s on 5 March.

 

Great British Garden Party

Taste of Dubai 2016

Now in its 9th year, Taste of Dubai is a 3-day food festival with exclusive fine-dining restaurants, world-class celebrity chefs, and an incredible line-up of international music. Here, food lovers (check our ExpatConnect Cooking Club and Foodies Group!) can come and watch live cooking demonstrations or get hands on and cook along with our tops chefs, and learn some culinary tips. Emirates NBD Classics  (season 5)

Welcome two of the greatest musicians of Indian classical music to the 5th season of the Emirates NBD Classics: Sitar player Ustad Shujaat Hussain Khan and saxophonist George Brooks. Racing at Meydan (Day 9)

Design Days Dubai 2016

Design Days Dubai” is the leading fair in the Middle East and South Asia dedicated to collectible and limited edition furniture and design objects. SIKKA Art Fair 2016

This is another one for our ExpatConnect Arts and Design Community: SIKKA is the first annual initiative of its kind founded by the Dubai Culture & Arts Authority to support and showcase Emirati and Dubai-based artistic talent. Apart from paintings and drawings, visitors of the fair will also be able to see performing arts, film screenings and musical acts. Furthermore, the fair features artist led talks, as well as various workshops and educational activities.

Enjoy the most beautiful voices of the Arab world with this series of concerts organized by the Dubai Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) in partnership with Rotana, the Arab world’s largest entertainment group. On 15 March, Emirati singer Hussain Al Jasmi will present a repertoire of his most famous songs, including his first single “Bawada’ak” and his hit song “Boushret Kher”. To date, Al Jasmi has attracted over 240 million Youtube viewers.

Check our ExpatConnect Photography Group and come to the first edition of the “Dubai Photo Exhibition” which is being held under the Patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai, and organized by the Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum International Photography Award (HIPA). Dubai International Kite Fest 2016

The Dubai International Kite Fest 2016 is a beach festival supported by the International Kite Flying Association (USA), as well as the Dubai Festival and Retail Establishment (DFRE). The event features a Sports Kite Flying Championship, Synchronized Kite Flying, Kite Boarding and Nite Kite Flying. In addition, the festival offers Kite Making Workshops; children’s play areas, food courts, as well as music and dance performances. The previous Kite Fest attracted more than 60,000 people of all ages and nationalities.

 

Emirates Airline Twenty20 Cricket Tournament

When? 18 March

Where? The Sevens Stadium, Dubai

General admission? General entry – AED 35, Kids until the age of 12 go free

This is a cricket day for the entire family. Enjoy watching some games of cricket in a relaxed atmosphere while your children will be entertained in a dedicated area, with bouncy castles, play equipment and cricket activities. In addition, there will be opportunities for kids to get coaching from professional players and autograph sessions (Kumar Sangakkara and Ian Bell will be there!). Another one for our ExpatConnect Music Lovers: Enjoy the most beautiful voices of the Arab world with this series of concerts organized by the Dubai Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) in partnership with Rotana, the Arab world’s largest entertainment group. On 18 March, please welcome Abdul Majeed Abdulla to the stage. The singer and composer from Saudi Arabia, who is one of the most popular artists in the Arab world, will perform his greatest songs, including “Ahtaj As’Allak”, and “Al Qalb Al Hanoun”.

This is another edition of this great outdoor event, which has been specifically put together for fans of electronic music (check our ExpatConnect Music Lovers Group!) Enjoy the tunes of local DJs while getting together with other festival fans in a relaxed and cool atmosphere.  On 19 March, Frederick Stone, the house DJ of Blue Marlin Ibiza UAE, will be at the turntables and present his sound mix, which he describes as “Deep. Driving. Melodic. Organic. Analogue”.

This is your chance to see “the most influential female rapper of all time”, according to New York Times editor Brent Staples.

Come and join this Hindu festival of colours where young and old come together, play, chase and colour each other with dry powder and coloured water, celebrating the victory of good over evil and the arrival of spring. Alongside various well known Bollywood DJs and dance performances, the festival features the popular Punjabi singer Money Aujla (Mafia Mundeer Band) who will present his smash hits, including “London”, “Dhak Dhak”, and “Siftaan”.

 

Dubai Classics 2016 “Spring Gala Concert”

This is a definite highlight for all fans of the classical music genre amongst our ExpatConnect Music Lovers. Dubai Classics presents its “Spring Gala Concert” featuring some of the world’s greatest performers. These include violin player Vadim Repin, the “Russian Paganini”, soprano Anna Aglatova of the famous Russian Bolshoi theatre, and tenor Alexei Neklyudov, a world-renowned soloist of the “Novaya Opera” theatre in Moscow.

 

Dubai World Cup Day 2016

When? 26 March

Where? Meydan Grandstand and Racecourse, Nad Al Sheba

General admission? AED 25 (for the public areas of the racecourse). These tickets will not be available onsite; they will only be pre-sold during Carnival race nights at the ticket booth opposite Gate B and from the ticket sales office located at Ramp B – Meydan Grandstand during the week. Children under the age of 12 go free.

As the closing event of the UAE racing season, the Dubai World Cup day features nine high-class races, including six Group 1 races and three Group 2 contests. The highlight will be the world’s richest horserace, the USD-10 million Dubai World Cup. Last year’s winner was HE Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s Prince Bishop. After the race all visitors will be invited to the Dubai World Cup’s finale show and concert.

Fashion Forward Dubai (FFWD) – Fall/Winter 2016

The Sound Of Music Live On Stage

If you love musicals and romantic love stories, check this out. “The Sound of Music” is one of the most successful movie musicals ever. It has won five Oscars, including the award for Best Picture, while its soundtrack stands in history as the best selling musical of all time.

Based on a true story, “The Sound of Music” recalls the memories of Maria and the Von Trapp family, united through their love of music and their struggle to freedom as their beautiful homeland of Austria faces Nazi occupation, just prior to the Second World War.
